U.S. crude oil refinery inputs averaged over 16.4 million barrels per day during the week ending December 2, 2016, 134,000 barrels per day more than the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 90.4% of their operable capacity last week.

Japan, South Korea, and China are the three largest importers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world, accounting for more than half of global LNG imports in 2015. Combined LNG imports in these countries averaged 18.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2015, a 5% (0.9 Bcf/d) decline from 2014 levels and the first annual decline in these countries' combined LNG imports since the global economic downturn in 2009.

Primary energy consumption fell slightly in 2015 as a decline in coal use exceeded increases in natural gas, petroleum, and renewables use. In most cases, changes between 2014 and 2015 reflect longer-term trends in energy use.

EU - Despite a projected decrease in EU fossil fuel production, net fuel imports will decrease and the EU's import dependency will only slowly increase over the projected period. That is mainly due to the higher share of renewable energy sources (RES) and significant energy efficiency improvements, while nuclear production remains stable. ..

Although the crude oil price decline since 2014 has led to significant reductions in operating cash flow for U.S. oil companies, their immediate financial situations are improving. As oil companies' spending falls and crude oil prices increase, the need for oil companies to find external sources of funding may decline, which could reduce financial strain in the coming quarters.
