Press Release  - 1 April 2020 February 2020 Euro area unemployment at 7.3%  - EU at 6.5% 

The euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.3% in February 2020 – the month before COVID-19 containment measures began to be widely introduced by Member States –, down from 7.4% in January 2020 and from 7.8% in February 2019. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since March 2008. The EU unemployment rate was 6.5% in February 2020, stable compared with January 2020 and down from 6.9% in February 2019.

ΕΠΙΤΟΚΙΑ ΝΕΩΝ ΚΑΤΑΘΕΣΕΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΔΑΝΕΙΩΝ ΣΕ ΕΥΡΩ

Σχεδόν αμετάβλητο παρέμεινε, το Φεβρουάριο του 2020, το μέσο σταθμισμένο επιτόκιο του συνόλου των νέων καταθέσεων, ενώ το αντίστοιχο επιτόκιο των νέων δανείων μειώθηκε. Το περιθώριο επιτοκίου* μειώθηκε στις 4,15 εκατοστιαίες μονάδες (βλ. Πίνακα 1).

Η Ελληνική Στατιστική Αρχή (ΕΛΣΤΑΤ) ανακοινώνει τους Δείκτες Κύκλου Εργασιών και Όγκου στο Λιανικό Εμπόριο, με έτος βάσης 2015=100,0 και μήνα αναφοράς τον Ιανουάριο 2020, η εξέλιξη των οποίων, σύμφωνα με στοιχεία προσωρινά και διορθωμένα ως προς τον αριθμό εργάσιμων ημερών τυπικού μήνα ίσης χρονικής διάρκειας, έχει ως εξής:

Non-technical summary

 In the current Capital Requirements Regulation, special treatment is reserved for exposures of European banks to government bonds denominated in domestic currency. Banks are not required to fund with capital their investments in sovereign bonds denominated in euro, which are considered de facto riskless. Furthermore, sovereign exposures are not subject to any concentration limits and can represent a large part of banks’ capital. As a result, there are strong regulatory incentives for banks to hold disproportionate amounts of domestic sovereign debt for capital and liquidity reasons.
