The U.S. middle class—those households with 50–150 percent of median disposable income—has been shrinking. Middle-income households declined by 11 percentage points (from 58 to 47 percent) of the total U.S. household population between 1970 and 2014. In other words, the U.S. income distribution has been polarizing, or hollowing out, as middle-income households became richer or poorer (see Figure 1).

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2016, households' financial assets amounted to €5,586 billion; this figure was up markedly by €98 billion (or 1.8%) from the third quarter of 2016. The increase owed partly to substantial valuation gains of just over €53 billion on financial assets, in particular on equities and investment fund shares.

Σύμφωνα με τα προσωρινά στοιχεία εκτέλεσης του κρατικού προϋπολογισμού, σε τροποποιημένη ταμειακή βάση, για την περίοδο Ιανουαρίου - Μαρτίου 2017, παρουσιάζεται έλλειμμα στο ισοζύγιο του κρατικού προϋπολογισμού ύψους 1.367 εκατ. ευρώ έναντι ελλείμματος 595 εκατ. ευρώ το αντίστοιχο διάστημα του 2016 και στόχου του Προϋπολογισμού 2017 (που έχει περιληφθεί στην εισηγητική έκθεση του Προϋπολογισμού) για έλλειμμα 1.408 εκατ. ευρώ.

Low income countries (LICs) are adapting to a difficult environment. The economic environment remains challenging for Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust (PRGT)-eligible countries and the Fund’s concessional financing framework continues to adapt to evolving needs. In October 2016, the Executive Board approved measures to keep interest rates on concessional loans at zero, so long as global interest rates are low.
