NEWS Release - EU Sustainable Energy Week is here!
Today marks the beginning of a week of activities dedicated to promoting sustainable energy across Europe. Tomorrow, Tuesday 14 June, the highlight of the event begins – the EU Sustainable Energy Week high-level policy conference - taking place in Brussels.
This year’s focus lies on shaping the debate about empowering consumers for an active role in the energy transition and the establishment of an Energy Union.
Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness Jyrki Katainen and Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete will open the event. They will discuss how the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) is contributing to the modernisation of the economy and a sustainable and energy-secure growth in Europe by supporting long-term decarbonisation objectives.
The opening ceremony will be moderated by Director-General for Energy Dominique Ristori, and will include speeches from the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Adnan Z. Amin and Director-General of the consumer association BEUC Monique Goyens, sparking discussion on howconsumers can take their place at the heart of Energy Union.
In the evening, a ceremony will take place to award the best European projects in clean, secure and efficient energy which are helping to achieve EU energy goals. Prizes will be awarded in the businesses, public sector and consumers' categories. For the first time European citizens will also award their prize.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Energy Days events are taking place across Europe throughout June to engage citizens and energy stakeholders in helping to build and strengthen the Energy Union. These public events involve exhibitions, workshops, educational events and more.
