HOW’S LIFE IN GREECE IN 2016? - Publication OECD
Since 2009, material conditions for people in Greece have declined significantly: average household net adjusted disposable income per capita decreased by 31.6% and average earnings dropped by 15.6% in 2013. Both now lie far below the OECD average.
In Greece labour market insecurity is among the highest of the OECD. The long-term unemployment rate stands at 19.5%, after having increased by 15.6 percentage points between 2009 and 2014, and is today the highest in the OECD.
In terms of environmental quality, only 69.3% of the Greek population are satisfied with their local water quality compared to the OECD average of 81.1%. However, average life expectancy in Greece is 81.4 years and lies above the OECD average (79.9 years). 73.9% of Greek adults perceive their health as good or better than good, while this share is only 68.9% in the OECD on average.
Regarding social network support, 83.4% of the people in Greece report having friends or relatives that they can count on in times of trouble compared to the OECD average of 88%. Life satisfaction in Greece is one of the lowest in the OECD.
