Press Release - Producer Price Index for final demand unchanged from August 2015 to August 2016
The Producer Price Index for final demand was unchanged from August 2015 to August 2016. Making up 64.3 percent of the final demand index, prices for final demand services increased 1.2 percent.
Prices for final demand goods decreased 2.1 percent and account for 33.6 percent of the final demand index. The index for final demand construction, which makes up the remaining 2.1 percent of the final demand index, increased 0.7 percent.
For the year ended August 2016, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 1.2 percent, the largest rise since climbing 1.3 percent for the year ended December 2014.
Within final demand services, from August 2015 to August 2016, prices for trade services increased 0.6 percent and prices for services less trade, transportation, and warehousing rose 1.8 percent. Prices for transportation and warehousing services decreased 1.8 percent.
Within final demand goods, prices for final demand energy decreased 10.0 percent for the year ended August 2016. Prices for final demand foods declined 4.4 percent. Prices for final demand goods less foods and energy increased 0.6 percent.
