Turnover in manufacturing in March 2016: –1.1% seasonally adjusted on the previous month


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional data, the manufacturing sector saw turnover fall in real terms adjusted for seasonal fluctuations and working-day variations of 1.1% in March 2016 compared with February 2016. In February 2016, the corrected figure shows a decrease of 0.2% (primary –0.5%) from January 2016.

In March 2016, domestic turnover decreased by 1.3% and the business with foreign customers declined by 0.8%. Sales to euro area countries were 0.5% below, and sales to other countries 1.1% below preceding month’s level.

Compared with the preceding year, real turnover in manufacturing showed a total increase of 0.7% in March 2016 after having been adjusted for working-day variations. In domestic sales a decrease of 0.3% was observed. Turnover from business with foreign customers rose by 1.8%. Among foreign transactions, sales to euro area countries increased by 5.2%, while turnover with other foreign countries declined by 0.5%.

In the first quarter 2016, the (working-day adjusted) turnover in manufacturing was 1.5% above the level of the same period of the previous year; domestic turnover increased 1.3% and foreign turnover increased 1.6%.
