NEWS Releases 17/12/2018  - The EBA calls for more action by financial institutions in their Brexit-related communication to customers

As a follow up to its June 2018 Opinion on financial institutions' preparedness for the UK withdrawal from the EU, the European Banking Authority (EBA) today reminds affected financial institutions to maintain their efforts in effective contingency planning and to increase their efforts in communicating to customers. The EBA urges such institutions to take its Opinion into careful consideration and to swiftly proceed with advising customers on the specific implications stemming from the UK withdrawal from the EU.

Το Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο στις 13-14 Δεκεμβρίου 2018 ενέκρινε συμπεράσματα σχετικά με το ΠΔΠ, την ενιαία αγορά, τη μετανάστευση και άλλα θέματα, δηλαδή τις εξωτερικές σχέσεις, την αλλαγή του κλίματος, την ασφάλεια και την άμυνα, την παραπληροφόρηση, την καταπολέμηση του ρατσισμού και της ξενοφοβίας και τις διαβουλεύσεις με τους πολίτες.

The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today two reports, which measure the impact of implementing Basel III reforms and monitor the current implementation of liquidity measures in the EU. The EBA Basel III capital monitoring report includes a preliminary assessment of the impact of the Basel reform package - as endorsed by the Group of Central Bank Governors and Heads of Supervision (GHoS) - on EU banks assuming its full implementation.

Καλό απόγευμα. Οι υπουργοί οικονομικών της ζώνης του ευρώ είχαν σήμερα 3 συναντήσεις. Ξεκινήσαμε με την τακτική Ευρωομάδα, πρώτα με το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο του ΕΣΜ και, τέλος, συζητήσαμε για την τραπεζική ένωση, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των μελών εκτός της ζώνης του ευρώ.

The European Banking Authority (EBA) launched today its 2018 EU-wide stress test and released the macroeconomic scenarios. The adverse scenario implies a deviation of EU GDP from its baseline level by 8.3% in 2020, resulting in the most severe scenario to date. The EBA expects to publish the results of the exercise by 2 November 2018.

The euro area (EA19) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.7% in December 2017, stable compared to November 2017 and down from 9.7% in December 2016. This remains the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since January 2009.

1 When was it decided that Greece would receive short-term debt relief measures?

In its statement of 25 May 2016, the Eurogroup mandated the ESM to work on a first set of debt relief measures, referred to as short-term measures. The ministers said that these measures would be implemented after the closure of the first review and before the end of the current ESM programme (the third programme). On 5 December 2016, the ESM presented detailed plans for the short-term measures to the Eurogroup.

EU Economy - The European Commission expects growth to continue in both the euro area and in the EU at 2.1% in 2018 and at 1.9% in 2019..

The euro area economy is on track to grow at its fastest pace in a decade this year, with real GDP growth forecast at 2.2%. This is substantially higher than expected in spring (1.7%). The EU economy as a whole is also set to beat expectations with robust growth of 2.3% this year (up from 1.9% in spring).

EU Economy - In the euro area the government deficit to GDP ratio fell from 2.1% in 2015 to 1.5% in 2016 ..- Eurostat

In 2016, the government deficit and debt of both the euro area (EA19) and the EU28 decreased in relative terms compared with 2015. In the euro area the government deficit to GDP ratio fell from 2.1% in 2015 to 1.5% in 2016, and in the EU28 from 2.4% to 1.7%. In the euro area the government debt to GDP ratio declined from 89.9% at the end of 2015 to 88.9% at the end of 2016, and in the EU28 from 84.5% to 83.2%.
