Η άνευ προηγουμένου συρρίκνωση του ΑΕΠ της οικονομίας κατά 26% σωρευτικά από το 2008 έως σήμερα έχει ως αποτέλεσμα το κατά κεφαλήν ΑΕΠ της οικονομίας να υπολείπεται του αντίστοιχου της Ευρωζώνης κατά 51,3%. Αυτή η μείωση του κατά κεφαλήν ΑΕΠ σε συνδυασμό με την υψηλή ανεργία των νέων οδηγεί τους νέους να αναζητήσουν εργασία στο εξωτερικό, ειδικότερα σε χώρες όπως η Γερμανία ή το Ην.
